Student Life

  

In association with Canadian National Education Exchange Centre (CNEEC) and Shandong University (SDU), students who enrol into the General Study Program (GSP) are interested in learning more about where they will study, their accommodations and features of daily life on and off campus.

CNEEC and Shandong University (SDU) want to ensure all students feel supported and have what they need in their academic lives and their social lives. There are excellent academic facilities, reflecting the importance of Shandong University as an elite world ranking institution offering undergraduate, masters and doctoral degree programs in all major academic disciplines covering humanities, science, and engineering, as well as medicine. There are also  many well-designed and modern teaching facilities across the eight campus sites and several library sites. The university even has its own museum, home to over 40,000 individual items.

1. Facilities

  • The classrooms and study halls area are situated in six buildings within Shandong University Software Park.
  • The facilities are modern and well equipped with heating and air conditioning. They are open to students after class and on weekends. Classrooms when not in session  can also be used for self-study.
  • The Software Park Campus Library covers an area of 1,530 sq m and holds more than 105,000 books and journals in Chinese and foreign languages – with an information sharing space, seminar room and seating to study. The library collection in the Software Park Campus Library focuses on the fields of computer science, physics, social sciences, philosophy, language, and literature.

 2.  Accommodations

  Student apartments are located just east of the teaching facilities.

  • Rooms are quiet and peaceful, perfect for studying.
  • Single rooms are available with bathroom on the first floor.
  • Most rooms are four-person rooms with individual beds and desks to study.
  • There are also a small number of five-person rooms which are spacious and provide for alternative housing opportunities.
  • All apartments have heating, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi.
  • Students are encouraged to decorate their living space to their own taste and comfort.
  • The apartments are also equipped with drinking fountains, laundry facilities, and shared facilities come equipped with a hairdryer, and microwave oven, self-service vending machines, printers, etc., to facilitate campus life.
  • All apartment facilities are equipment with fire and safety features to assist in case of an emergency.
  • There are also off-campus accommodation options at SDU.

 

 

 3.  Student Restaurants

There are three (3) restaurants on campus, to meet the daily needs of GSP students.

 

 

 

  • Restaurants 1 and 2 are student restaurants.
    • 1 serves a variety of home-cooked dishes, all kinds of pasta, dumplings, rice noodles and abundant fruits at an affordable price. 
    • 2 has a variety of special snacks, spicy hot pot, rice bowls, fried rice, fried skewers, and simple desserts. There are all kinds of delicacies to meet the dietary needs of students and their individual preferences.
    • 3 Food and Beverage restaurant is one of the most popular offering a variety of dishes.
  • There are two supermarkets situated on campus providing for daily necessities, school supplies, snacks, etc. The supermarkets are well stocked, and the prices are fair. 
  • The university campus also provides hair styling salons, optical shops, tea shops, and coffee shops.

4.  Sports and Recreation

Exercise is a vital component of educational success.  At Shandong University, outdoor sports venues include a running track, basketball courts,  tennis courts, and volleyball courts. Table tennis and badminton courts are adjacent to the restaurant locations.

 

 

5.  Student Support

SDU tutors and lecturers work hard to make sure that students get al the academic support services they need.  As well as scholarships and in-person support programs focused on improving learning quality, there is also online learning programs that let students receive a good education whether studying on or off campus.

 Social / emotional support and financial student services are available on campus.  

6.  Around Campus

There are many sports, culture,  leisure entertainment and shopping venues nearby Shandong University Campus.  Here are just a few:

  • Olympic Sports Center
    • Two kilometers from the campus. The largest sports and fitness venue with the best supporting facilities in Jinan. Sports events are concerts are held at this state of the art public venue.
  • Shandong Provincial Museum
    • The museum is a collection and exhibition center of Shandong province. Its collections cover the categories of history, nature and art and feature ceramics, bronzes, oracles, bamboo slips, inscriptions on pottery, clay and imperial seals, Han pictorial stones, paintings and calligraphy, and rare books
  • Shandong Provincial Art Museum
    • The distance to the campus is 3.9 kilometers. The palace art, ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign art works can be appreciated, and themed art exhibitions are often held.
  • Vientiane City
    • The distance to the campus is 4.6 kilometers. The largest shopping mall around, and adjacent to museums and art galleries, shopping, dining, movie theatres.
  • Rongchuang Paradise
    • It is five kilometers away from the campus, close to Sunac Mall, and has a variety of scenic spots in the park. It is a good place for one-stop shopping, dining, and entertainment.
