The General Studies Program (GSP) welcomes its 2014 cohort of new students. The welcoming ceremony was successfully held in the auditorium of the Shandong University (SDU) Software Campus at 8:00AM, September 10th, 2014.
Present at the ceremony were Dr. Zou Nan (Associate Director of GSP Managing Committee, SDU), Ms. Zhang Li (Shandong Region Chief Representative, Canadian National Education Exchange Centre (CNEEC)), Dr. Zhang Shuyong (Associate Dean of Undergraduate Students, SDU), Ms. Wang Yingchun, (Program Director, SDU International Office), various instructors from the GSP program, as well as several representatives from the Chinese branch offices of the CNEEC. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Tang Jinli, Director of GSP and GSP Managing Committee Member, SDU.
Dr. Zou Nan delivered the opening address. On behalf of SDU, he expressed sincere congratulations and extended a warm welcome to the new students of 2014. He elaborated that the students’ are now members of the SDU community, representing an institution of higher education that strives to be a first-rate university in the world, and one with a humble and practical character. Dr. Zou gave high praises to the instruction and management of the GSP program and hoped the students would value this opportunity by studying diligently, making their families and teachers proud.
Ms. Zhang Li also welcomed the new students on behalf of CNEEC and shared her views on university life. She reminded students to value their time spent studying in the program, especially to practise sound time management and work-life balance, and to learn to maintain emotional well-being. She wished everyone great academic success.
Yang Jinda, a second-year student at GSP, gave the final welcoming address and spoke from personal life experience in the previous year. He cautioned the new students to not disappoint their families and to value their time. He emphasized the importance of mastering English and encouraged his fellow students to fight hard to get into the universities of their dreams.
The new students of 2014 maintained a spirited and orderly demeanor during the ceremony. Their energy, confidence, and vision for the newly begun university life were palpable. The welcoming ceremony concluded in the midst of the students’ round applause.
