The recent meetings between the Canadian National Education Exchange Centre (CNEEC) and representatives from Dalhousie University has further solidified a partnership of twenty plus years that aims to foster international academic excellence. The key points of discussion and outcomes, include:
- General Study Program (GSP): CNEEC detailed the history of its partnership with Dalhousie University through the General Study Program (GSP). The program serves as a bridge for Chinese transfer students to continue their undergraduate education in Canada, emphasizing the importance of creating seamless educational pathways.
- English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program: A significant focus was placed on establishing clear English language bridging requirements for transfer students, with tailored language support to meet the academic rigor of U15 research universities.
- Recruitment and Admissions: The meeting involved discussions of recruitment and admission processes, ensuring they are aligned with the needs and backgrounds of GSP students.
- Office of Government & Global Relations. Discussions concerned furthering the partnership with an initiative that seeks to synchronize the GSP course offerings with Dalhousie University’s academic courses, providing clarity on transfer credits.
- Faculty of Science and Arts: Discussion occurred regarding enhancing student support services, which includes mental health resources and career counseling, to support the holistic needs of GSP students and foster a sense of belonging and community. CNEEC also committed to sharing enrolment data so that students attending Dalhousie are identified and welcomed upon the start of their academic program.
