Introduction

The Education Committee of Sichuan Province in China also approved, following Shandong University, the General Study Program (GSP) at Southwest Jiaotong University, under the cooperation of Canadian National Education Exchange Center (CNEEC) and Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), in 2002.

Southwest Jiaotong University also follows the GSP's general curriculum. It offers approximately 35 university courses covering the disciplines of Economics/Commerce and Science/Engineering, with about 1,300 hours of intensive English training, and provides the first two years of an internationally acceptable undergraduate degree. Students who complete the courses in the GSP and achieve acceptable academic standing are eligible to apply to Canadian universities to further their degree studies.

Over 30 students have completed their study in the GSP and were admitted as transfer students by seven Canadian universities up to 2005. Currently about 70 students are studying in the GSP at SWJTU, they were admitted in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
